Aloha Colleagues,

As you may be aware, the Our Care, Our Choice Act (authorizing Medical Aid in Dying for terminally ill patients) has been updated to improve access. Important changes to the law went into effect on June 2, 2023 and include:

  1. APRNs are now able to be the Attending or Consulting Provider
  2. Psych APRNs & MFTs are able to be the Mental Health Provider

Additionally, there have been important changes to the waiting periods. We are so grateful for these improvements to the law.

We are excited to work with the Hawaiʻi - American Nurses Association (Hawaiʻi-ANA) to offer 3 one-hour educational sessions on MAID! The sessions will focus on this new role for APRNs & MFTs, as well as education on the evolving role of RNs as the nurse navigators for MAID patients. All clinicians and pharmacists are welcomed to join. Here are the details:

A special note to our beloved Maui colleagues: We understand that Continuing Educational Events likely cannot be a priority right now. We will be conducting more sessions in the future. We send heartfelt wishes for strength and recovery to our entire Maui provider ohana.
