Aloha Hawaii APRNs!

The 2023 Legislative Session is now underway with the first committee hearings starting this week.  We would like to encourage you to actively participate in the legislative process as this allows our profession to advocate for our patients, healthcare access, our profession, and more.

Please take a quick look at the Legislative Session 2023 page for more information on how to participate in the legislative process.  You can participate even if you don’t have a lot of time!  Your voice is counted in committee hearings and the chair of the committee usually tallies the votes who support and oppose a bill.  If all you have time to do is to state your position as “support” or “oppose”, that is enough.  If you have time to write why, even better.  It is important that our voice is heard when legislative committees are hearing APRN-focused bills.  Please consider creating a Hawaii Legislator Account today.

We have provided you with HAPN’s testimony for the bills that we are following and that have been scheduled so far this week as examples.  Our testimony will always focus on patient access to care, patient safety, protection of the APRN profession, and more.

If you have time to be part of this legislative effort, please reach out to Dr. Bradley Kuo, APRN (bradleykuonp@gmail.com) who has been actively working with the state legislature over the past several years.  Session is always fast paced; clear and quick communication is needed to produce testimony and keep HAPN membership informed.  Your efforts are needed!

Please consider joining HAPN as an active memberWhy become a member of the Hawaii Association for Professional Nurses? Find educational resources for ALL NURSES; information about CEUs to keep up to date with changes in nursing; job postings; become a legislative voice: have a hand in the future of nursing and patient care; networking opportunities; conference postings; develop leadership through mentoring opportunities; and more.
