A Message from the Director of the Hawaii State Center for Nursing: Help us achieve our nursing leadership goal before the Leadership In Action Conference!

Aloha and Happy Friday!
I wanted to reach out to you today as a nurse leader in our state.
Part of my role as the Director of the Hawai‘i State Center for nursing includes serving as the state contact for the Nurses on Board Coalition. This coalition aims to a) count the number of board positions nurses are holding, b) communicate the value of nurses holding leadership positions to board-led organizations and c) support leadership development and identify opportunities for nurses who are interested in board service.
In Hawai‘i, we are almost at our NOBC goal for number of nurses on boards. However, when I look at the list of nurses on boards reported for our state, I chuckle because I know this number is a gross underrepresentation of the incredible leadership and service nurses are really doing across the islands.
I would love to be able to report at the Leadership In Action conference, which the Center cosponsors, that we have exceeded our goal!
To do this, I have three asks for you:
1) Visit nursesonboardscoalition.org/be-counted and report all your board positions. This includes hospital boards, non-profit health advocacy organizations, and even church, school and athletic boards or parent-teacher organizations.
2) Share this email with your nurse colleagues who also contribute their services to boards of all kinds across the state. Ask them to report their board positions as well.
3) Join the Center, AONL-Hawai‘i and Hawai‘i-Pacific Chapter of ACHE at the Leadership In Action Conference (aonlhawaii.org/annual-conference) on November 14th and 15th to find out if we can meet (or exceed!) our goal of nurses on boards, attend a national caliber healthcare leadership conference, and network with colleagues across the state.
